Meet Dr. Zoran Aleksic

Dr Zoran Aleksic, Dip in Med (Belgrade), FC Ophth (SA), is an ophthalmologist and anterior segment and refractive eye surgeon, specialising in cataract and lens surgery and laser refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) for short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism. His practice, The Eye Surgery, is based in Sea Point, Cape Town, with a second consulting room in Vredenburg on the West Coast, and procedures performed across the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Cape Town CBD, and West Coast.

Qualifications and registration

Dr Aleksic holds a Dip in Med (Belgrade), obtained from Belgrade Medical School, Serbia, in 1990, and is a Fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa, FC Ophth (SA), awarded in 1997. He is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a specialist in ophthalmology — you can view his current registration status directly on the HPCSA's public register. The HPCSA is the statutory body responsible for regulating healthcare professions in South Africa, setting standards for education, training, and ethical practice.

Career history

Dr Aleksic graduated from Belgrade Medical School in 1990, then gained early ophthalmology experience at Edendale Hospital and Grey's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, as part of the University of Natal's Medical School satellite unit. He completed his specialist registrar training at Frere Hospital in East London, followed by advanced training at the University of Cape Town, based at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children's Hospital, obtaining his Fellowship of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa, FC Ophth (SA), in 1997.

Dr Aleksic has been involved in laser refractive surgery since his specialist training, and began performing laser procedures in private practice in 1999. He has now been in private practice for over 27 years.

Dr Aleksic is affiliated with Life Peninsula Eye Hospital and Life Kingsbury Hospital, both in Claremont, Cape Town, Life West Coast Private Hospital in Vredenburg, and Peninsula Eye Clinic, the dedicated laser treatment centre in Claremont.

Our Practice Rooms

After many years at Gardens Mediclinic, Dr Aleksic made the decision to move the practice to the Atlantic Seaboard, closer to many of the patients he had been serving from areas such as Sea Point, Camps Bay and Fresnaye. Having outgrown the previous, smaller premises, the move also created an opportunity to establish a larger, purpose-designed practice.

​

The Sea Point practice opened in 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic reached South Africa. Designed by Dr Aleksic from the ground up, the new rooms incorporated his many years of experience and vision for a modern, patient-focused ophthalmology practice — making the new location a long-held dream come true.

​

What began as a small, independent practice, with Dr Aleksic managing everything from patient bookings to consultations himself, gradually grew into the established practice it is today, supported by a dedicated team of eight full-time staff members.

The practice is located on the 7th floor of The Point Mall in Sea Point, conveniently situated on the Atlantic Seaboard. The centre offers a variety of convenient stores and services, including a Discovery medical aid service point.

​

The Point Mall offers secure basement parking, with dedicated office lifts providing direct access to the office suites on the 7th floor. Patients visiting the practice are encouraged to park in the basement and use the dedicated office lifts. Alternatively, the Cassel Road entrance provides convenient access for on-street parking and Uber or other ride-hailing drop-offs.

The Sea Point rooms are where Dr Aleksic sees patients for consultations, diagnostic testing and minor in-room procedures. The purpose-designed practice includes four dedicated consulting rooms and a small procedure room, allowing certain minor eye procedures to be performed on-site. The practice also has backup power and continues operating during load shedding.

​

A fully equipped optical dispensing practice and contact lens clinic operates from the same premises, offering a range of spectacle frames and reading glasses. Independent optometrists also practise from the Sea Point rooms.

​

The Vredenburg rooms, on the West Coast, offer consultations and diagnostic services for patients in the area, with surgery performed at Life West Coast Private Hospital nearby.

​

Surgical procedures are performed at Life Peninsula Eye Hospital and Peninsula Eye Clinic in Claremont, and at Life West Coast Private Hospital in Vredenburg, depending on the procedure.
